Penn State, UCF, and a brief history of football in Ireland

Dublin will again host an American football game between Penn State and UCF this weekend at Croke Park. This game comes following the much needed financial success of 2012’s game at Aviva Stadium between Navy and Notre Dame. The city has been the sight of several failed attempts to bring the sport to Ireland in […]

Nittany Minute: Time to see what James Franklin can do

Today marks the official relaunch of The Nittany Minute, a video blog series focusing on Penn State football. Rather than put together a brand new video every day of the week, I have decided to give this a shot on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday of the football season. I will get on that schedule […]

BTN Power Rankings unkind to Penn State

Penn State opens the 2014 season Saturday morning (unless you are fortunate enough to be in Ireland, that is), and it looks as though the Nittany Lions will have something to prove around the Big Ten this fall. This comes as little surprise given the legitimate concerns facing Penn State this season when it comes […]

Penn State TE Adam Breneman sidelined

Per Penn State release… “Penn State football coach James Franklin announced today that tight end Adam Breneman (Mechanicsburg) will be out indefinitely with an injury. Coach Franklin asked that the public support and respect Adam and his family’s privacy.” That’s a major bummer, dude.

Is this Michigan’s uniform for the Penn State game?

Michigan will host Penn State for a night game at Michigan Stadium this season. The Wolverines tend to make a big deal out of this new night game fad they are experiencing, and an alternate uniform worn for the game has been done before. Could it be done again? You bet. Might this be a preview of […]

Going Viral: PSU kid’s Hackenberg TD dance

At one point in our lives we all probably imagined throwing or catching a game-winning touchdown for our favorite team. Some of you may have been older than you’d like to admit, but the youth of a fan base always seems to let the imagination run wild. Take this kid for instance, who imagined he […]

Video: James Franklin talks with Jim Gardner

Jim Gardner is a veteran news anchor in Philadelphia at ABC affiliate WPVI. Gardner is well-respected in this area and he has had the opportunity to conduct one-on-one interviews with presidents and international dignitaries over his career. This week he added Penn State head coach James Franklin to that impressive list.

Gardner asks Franklin about taking on the role of face of the university and his Philadelphia area roots. For those who have been keeping up on all of Franklin’s media opportunities since taking over the position of head coach there may not be a whole lot of new information or stories shared here, but if you have 12 minutes to kill, it is still worth watching. Franklin did the interview while wearing flip-flops. Unrivaled.

You can see the full interview below. The original story from 6 ABC can be read here.

Christian Heismanburg?

The Heisman Trophy has seen a recent trend of underclassmen quarterbacks taking home college football’s most notable individual award. Could Penn State sophomore Christian Hackenberg follow up his impressive freshman debut in the Big Ten with a ride to New York? College Football Talk included Hackenberg in a list of potential Heisman Trophy candidates for the […]

Mark Weisman, Iowa RB

So, about those Iowa Hawkeyes…

As we get closer to the start of the season you may be taking a closer look around the Big Ten to see how this conference is going to shape out. Ohio State is my team to beat in 2014, and Michigan State is right there in the hunt as defending champion. We know Penn […]

Four Big Ten teams in preseason coaches poll

The first of the not useless preseason polls was released today, with the unveiling of the coaches poll. Penn State is not eligible to receive votes in the coaches poll until completing its NCAA sentence (currently set at end of the 2015 season, making Penn State eligible for coaches poll voting in 2016). With the […]

Dan Connor helping to make West Chester D2′s Linebacker U

One of Penn State’s all-time best defensive players is beginning his coaching career. Former Penn State linebacker Dan Connor has been added to the coaching staff at West Chester University, one of the top Division 2 programs in the northeast. Connor will be the linebackers coach for the Golden Rams, a perennial contender in the PSAC. […]

Penn State receives 2016 verbal from five-star DE Shane Simmons

Penn State head coach James Franklin is working his way through the ESPN car wash up in Bristol, Connecticut today. Somewhere along the way he probably received a phone call that will have him beaming. Class of 2016 five-star defensive end Shane Simmons verbally committed to Penn State this afternoon, choosing the Nittany Lions over Florida State, […]

How the media preseason polls predict Penn State’s opponents

Now that the media day circuit is wrapping up for this summer, we have preseason polls taking a crack at forecasting the upcoming college football season in every conference. Penn State was picked by selected Big Ten media to finish fourth in the Big Ten East Division, behind Ohio State, Michigan State and Michigan. But […]
